Who We Serve

Entrepreneurs & Business Owners

From business exit planning to personal wealth management — aligning business success with personal financial goals.

Building a business is one of the most demanding, rewarding, and financially complex undertakings a person can pursue. Entrepreneurs pour everything into their companies — their time, their energy, their capital, and often a significant portion of their personal financial security. The business becomes both their livelihood and, frequently, the centerpiece of their personal wealth. This creates a financial situation that is fundamentally different from that of a salaried employee, and it requires a fundamentally different approach to financial planning.

At Ceremian Financial, we have deep experience advising entrepreneurs and business owners across a wide range of industries and business structures. We understand the cyclical nature of business income, the challenge of maintaining personal financial discipline during lean years, the tax complexity of pass-through entities, and the existential question that every business owner eventually faces: what happens when the business is sold, transferred, or closed?

Personal Wealth Outside the Business

One of our primary objectives for entrepreneur clients is building robust personal wealth outside the business. This is not a criticism of the business as an investment — it is a recognition that concentration in any single asset, no matter how strong, is a risk. Business owners who have accumulated meaningful personal wealth in diversified investment portfolios, real estate, and retirement accounts are far better positioned to weather business downturns, pivot when necessary, and approach exit events from a position of financial strength rather than financial necessity.

Retirement Planning for Business Owners

Business owners have access to significantly more powerful retirement savings vehicles than employees. A Solo 401(k) allows self-employed individuals to contribute both as employer and employee, potentially sheltering a much larger portion of business income than a standard 401(k). Defined benefit plans can allow high-income business owners to make even larger pre-tax contributions, depending on age and income. SEP IRAs offer simplicity with high contribution limits for sole proprietors.

Selecting and optimizing the right retirement plan structure — and contributing to it consistently, even in variable-income years — is one of the highest-value financial planning actions a business owner can take. The combination of tax deductions today and tax-deferred growth over time can produce substantial retirement security that exists entirely independent of the business.

Business Succession and Exit Planning

For most business owners, the sale or transfer of their business is the defining financial event of their lifetime. Yet too many business owners arrive at exit events without a comprehensive plan — leaving significant money on the table, facing unexpected tax burdens, or finding themselves financially dependent on earn-out payments that may or may not materialize. We believe that exit planning should begin years in advance, and we work with business owners to build toward a successful exit from the earliest stages of our relationship.

Exit planning encompasses business valuation, transaction structure (asset sale vs. stock sale), installment sales and earn-outs, Qualified Small Business Stock (QSBS) exclusions, Opportunity Zone reinvestment, charitable techniques for managing capital gains, and post-exit investment strategy. We coordinate the full process with your transaction attorney, accountant, and business broker to ensure that the financial outcome of your exit reflects the full value of what you have built.
